THE notorious bank robber dubbed the “Postcard Bandit” has appeared briefly in a Perth court charged with escaping from Fremantle Jail 27 years ago.
Brenden Abbott, 53, appeared via video link in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday morning, charged with escaping legal custody, which relates to his November 24, 1989, jail escape.
Abbott was read the charge, asked if he understood and remanded in custody to appear again on June 2.
He indicated he understood the charge but requested an adjournment, saying he had only just arrived in Perth on Wednesday.
Family members were also in court to support Abbott but made no comment as they left the court.
